Back to the future nine screenshots codes and conventions
Back to the future was released in 1985 and is an Science fiction, adventure comedy. It was produced by Steven Spielberg, written by Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis (who also directed the movie). The film was Distributed by Universal and was filmed on their set. The plot:
The film tells the story of Marty McFly, a
teenager who is accidentally sent back in time from 1985 to 1955. He meets his
future-parents in high school and accidentally attracts his future mother's
romantic interest. Marty must repair the damage to history by causing his
parents-to-be to fall in love, and with the help of scientist Dr. Emmett
"Doc" Brown, he must find a way to return to 1985.
First screenshot I chose was the director's
name on a plain black background. Seeing Steven Spielberg's name will make the
audience expect that it is a mainstream movie. Also it hints that the film will
be a sic-fi/fantasy because that is the film genre Steven creates and directs.
Third screenshot has iconography of clocks in the background, if the audience linked the title 'Back to the future' and the clocks it confirms the film is about traveling through time. Meanwhile the credits are making an appearance and shows that Michael J Fox is the main star. At the time the movie was created, Michael J Fox was young man what means that one of the main characters could be a young man maybe a teenager.
Next screenshot is of more clocks, however, the other clocks look more modern. It connotes one of the main characters have collected them other the years what means he/she has a lot of time on their hands possibly. Could also connote that the character is out of the ordinary because collecting clocks is not the 'norm'.
Fifth shot is a newspaper cut out framed in the house. It reveals and possible character called 'Brown'. As well as that it gives away the overall setting of which is Hill Valley.
The screenshot after, has loads of cluttered paper and the table/desk is very unorganised. Also on the far right there is a handmade pancake machine this could mean the character has free time to create gadgets and he is creative, imagnative and smart. The use of the credits revealing a well known band's (at the time) hit is in the film gives the audience an expectation that movie is definitely high budget.
Seventh screenshot is of a TV what has been left on the news. The news reporter is informing about a 'Plutonium Theft'. Plutonium isn't a common thing or easy to steal, this hints that the culprit of theiving the Plutonium is a clever person and does strange things. That links back to the character who collected the clocks and cluttered desk because he/she could be out of the ordinary, as well as very smart.
Screenshot eight has a toaster what toasts bread automatically (could be another gadget the character has made)
Finally, the last screenshot dennotes an overflowing animal bowl - with the name 'Einestien' printed on the side - full of dog food. This connotes that the mystery character has a pet dog of what he has named after a famous scientist. That could mean he/she is into science or could be a scientist theirselves. Lastly, the dog bowl is full up over the rim what predicts that niether the dog 'Eienstien' or the mystery character 'Brown' have not been home for a while.
